Clust-ER Health in San Diego for Bio International 2024

From 3 to 6 June 2024, San Diego, California, hosted the prestigious BIO 2024 event, a must-attend event for the global biotechnology sector. Clust-ER Health had a significant presence, proudly representing the excellence of the Emilia-Romagna region. The Italian Pavilion, organized by ICE – Italian Trade Agency, offered an important platform for Italian companies, allowing them to showcase innovations and advances in the field of biotechnology to an international audience. Thanks to the numerous initiatives and networking meetings, existing contacts were renewed and new ones created, paving the way for future international collaborations. Active participation in the Italian Pavilion and leading events has strengthened the presence of Clust-ER Health in the global biotechnology landscape, promoting Emilia-Romagna’s excellence and expanding the sector’s development prospects.

Partecipation in the Italian Pavilion

The Health Cluster, together with important companies from Emilia-Romagna such as PBL and Valpharma International, played a leading role within the Italian Pavilion. This space brought together numerous Italian companies, allowing them to showcase excellence in the sector and create opportunities for networking and future collaborations. Regional research and innovation projects on health and wellness were also presented, thanks to the infotainment tool developed in recent months.

A highlight was the event “Italian Biotech for a Better Future“, where Fabrizio Conicella, Head of Open Innovation at Chiesi Farmaceutici represented Clust-ER Health by illustrating the development trajectories of regional pharmaceutical companies and future prospects, and highlighting Italy’s role in the global biotech landscape. An important event to highlight Italian innovations and to establish new collaborations.

Networking and collaborations

Cluster Manager Sauro Vicini participated in various networking events, including the “European Night,” which brought together representatives from several European and American countries, providing an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and creating new partnerships. The evening was a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties with others in the industry and explore possibilities for collaboration.

During the event, the Cluster Manager also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of international organisations, exploring new opportunities for collaboration. Among the most significant meetings were:

  • Osaka Prefectural Government: Discussions on the resumption of bilateral collaborations and knowledge exchanges in the biotechnology sector, with a focus on Expo 2025.
  • BioHub Taiwan/National Biotechnology Research Park (NBRP): Exploration of possible partnerships in the state of Taiwan.
  • Prague.bio: Opportunities for cooperation and innovative project development with a European cluster from the Czech Republic.
  • Baton Rouge Health District: Dialogues on joint initiatives with a U.S. cluster in health and biomedical research.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development: Resumption of dialogue on economic development and cooperation in the field of biotechnology, ahead of a Pennsylvania government mission to Emilia-Romagna.
  • Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization (KoreaBIO): Discussions on partnerships and collaborative initiatives with the Korea Biotechnology Association.
  • EBD Group: Meeting focused on Clust-ER Health’s participation in Bio Europe and Bio Europe Spring events.

This participation highlighted how collaboration and networking are critical to the advancement of the biotechnology sector, highlighting the importance of events like BIO 2024 for growth and innovation. Clust-ER Health proved to be a benchmark in life sciences, proudly representing regional excellence and building bridges to new global opportunities.
