eSteps campaign kicks off to combat the progression of motor disability through an innovative smart insole
The campaign of eSteps, an Italian-American start-up working to defeat the progression of motor disability through a smart insole linked to an app, has kicked off in recent days.
It is a state-of-the-art solution designed to improve the mobility of a variety of people: from those with multiple sclerosis or another disease with reduced mobility, to fitness enthusiasts, competitive athletes, the elderly, and anyone wishing to improve their health and longevity. Our goal is to enable everyone to take control of their own well-being through innovative, high-quality technology.
Nidhal Louhichi, CEO of eSteps and biomedical engineer from Bologna
eSteps is connected to an app, free of charge, for both Android and iOS devices, which monitors the health of the wearer of the insole and at the same time encourages them to take care of themselves, with personalised exercises to help maintain their mobility. There are six main functionalities: continuous monitoring, through the analysis of each individual step; an Artificial Intelligence Coach, a personalised instructor to improve physical performance; monitoring of one’s own stress level, particularly useful for the elderly as it helps prevent injuries and the risk of falling; an Artificial Intelligent Caregiver: provides health tips and can connect with your doctor for immediate assistance; Data Sharing: allows you to share data securely and privately with caregivers and family members; and lastly, the app’s compatibility with other wearable apps such as Fitbit, Apple Watch and Strava to enable a complete experience.
Furthermore, eSteps represents Italian excellence: the product is made in Italy, using high-quality materials and unique craftsmanship. In this way, eSteps has managed to combine the potential of AI with environmental sustainability and Italian-made excellence, setting itself apart from other competitors on the market. It is a device that allows continuous monitoring, without interruptions, thanks to the acquisition of more than 100 data per second – far exceeding normal pedometers -, data that is technically and clinically validated thanks to the collaboration with universities and hospital research centres. It also has a green side: while the basic model has an autonomy of 7 days – compared to the average of 3 days of other wearable devices -, the pro model recharges itself with one hour of walking, thus allowing infinite autonomy.
The campaign launched by eSteps on the Indiegogo platform aims to collect pre-orders with the goal of starting large-scale production to reduce costs and make eSteps accessible to more people around the world. By participating in the eSteps campaign, not only will you have access to special discounts – the insole is 50% off – but you will also help bring a revolutionary technology to market that can improve the lives of many people. You do not have to buy, but you can also just make a donation, of any amount, to help reach the goal of 6,000 pre-orders.
“Did you know that walking is one of the six vital signs that we master at the age of one year? It symbolises our first step towards independence. However, losing mobility can mean losing that freedom for which we have fought so hard, says Louhichi. Recently, a dear friend asked me what my greatest ambition was. My answer? To ensure that we can all continue to fight for a world of justice and peace, unhindered by physical limitations. Today I invite you to participate in this mission: you have the power to give someone back a piece of their independence. Join our campaign and make a difference in someone’s life“.
Some user testimonies
“I am 75 years old and live alone. The smart eSteps insoles have given me great peace of mind. Thanks to the continuous monitoring, I can be sure that I don’t fall and my children can check my safety via the app. Now I feel safer and more independent, and my children have more peace of mind knowing that I can count on reliable support.”

“The combination of the smart eSteps insole and the mobile app has been incredible. The real-time monitoring function allows me to see exactly how much I move during the day. The gait analysis has provided valuable information about my walking habits, helping me to correct my posture and avoid unnecessary strain.”

“Two years ago I received news that changed my life forever: I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and since then it has been a journey of ups and downs. As a professional athlete, my body was my instrument, my pride. When I first noticed that something was wrong, I was training for a big event. My legs felt like they were full of lead. I felt lost, as if everything I had worked for was slipping away. But I learnt to adapt, to listen to my body and to fight. Keeping active and aware of my movements was crucial to managing my symptoms. The insoles don’t just provide comfort: they give me valuable information about my condition. They help me know when I need to rest and when I can push myself a little further. To all the athletes out there battling with multiple sclerosis, remember, you are not alone. It is normal to feel scared and overwhelmed. But don’t let that define you. Embrace your path, find your inner strength and never give up.”
