Labotec 2026. Data, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability: Innovation in Research and Laboratories. The BioHubs Experience
How can expertise, data and collaboration be transformed into tangible innovation for research, laboratories and society? This was the central question of the workshop dedicated to the experience of the BioHubs Network, promoted by Clust-ER Health and held as part of Labotec 2026.

The event provided an important opportunity to discuss the role of data, artificial intelligence and sustainability in fostering research that is increasingly innovative, collaborative and capable of responding to society’s needs.
The BioHubs Network is part of an innovation ecosystem that seeks to strengthen connections between research organisations, businesses and other regional stakeholders, encouraging knowledge sharing and the development of specialised expertise.
Through complementary areas of activity, the BioHubs help foster dialogue across disciplines, technologies and sectors, creating opportunities for collaboration and supporting the translation of scientific results into practical applications.
During the workshop, experiences and perspectives were shared by representatives of BioHubs within the network.
Their contributions enriched the discussion on the value of collaboration and the importance of bringing together different areas of expertise and perspectives.
Alongside the opportunities offered by emerging technologies, the workshop highlighted four key elements for maximising the value of research: expertise, connections, communication and the dissemination of results to society.
Sharing knowledge among researchers, research centres and businesses is essential, but it is only part of the process. Scientific findings must also be made accessible, understandable and useful to the wider community and to patients.
In this context, dialogue with businesses and collaboration among the different stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem play a strategic role. Knowledge transfer helps create the conditions for translating scientific findings into new applications, services and opportunities, bringing research closer to people’s real needs.
Data and artificial intelligence can open up new opportunities for research and innovation, while sustainability highlights the importance of developing solutions that generate long-term value. Realising this potential requires technological progress to be supported by the right expertise, strong partnerships and effective communication.
